From 18 to 19 March 2025, the Ministry of Economy brought together experts and stakeholders to discuss key aspects of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement. The discussions covered essential topics such as the agreement’s protocols, Mozambique’s tariff offer and national strategy, the role of NICs, and the development of schedules for trade in services under AfCFTA. These conversations were instrumental in enhancing understanding and defining strategies for the country’s effective participation in continental trade. Presentations from the AfCFTA Secretariat, Mozambique’s Ministry of Economy, ODI Global, and SE Trade Advisors were further enriched by valuable contributions from the Nigeria AfCFTA Coordination Office, represented by Olusegun Olutayo. Additionally, our Managing Director, Samuel Zita, facilitated discussions on Mozambique’s possible options to be considered for the structure of the AfCFTA National Implementation Committee .

The event marked a significant step forward in operationalizing NICs and finalizing Mozambique’s initial offers in five priority service sectors under the Trade in Services Protocol. The active participation and commitment demonstrated by all involved reflect a shared determination to boost intra-African trade and drive Mozambique’s economic development. The success of AfCFTA depends on collaboration between governments, the private sector, and other key stakeholders. The future of African trade is now, and it is up to us to turn this agreement into a powerful tool for the continent’s growth and prosperity.
